Creating The Wave while creating waves

My Healing Touch Mentor asked me if I would be interested in writing a song for the Healing Touch Association of Canada’s annual conference in May of 2017. I immediately said Yes and would be honoured to do it – besides, I had a year that should give me lots of time!

The conference was taking place in Moncton, NB, and many people were attending. This weekend was going to be special. So many lovely guest speakers attended, and it was an entire weekend of love and healing.

I remember February 2017 rolling around, and I still hadn’t written the song. Didn’t really even think about it too much. I still had lots of time, didn’t I?

My mentor reached out to see how I was coming along with the song. I told her that I was working on it. She said the committee would meet soon and would like to hear what I was creating. Well, I guess this meant it was time to get my pen and paper out and start to write!

The first day, I spent humming, jotting words down and trying to create sentences. It didn’t seem to flow to me as quickly as I expected it to. Maybe I was feeling nervous because one of the committee members had sent me the song by Starship called “Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now.” as an example of what they’d like the song to sound like, full of energy. I was sweating buckets, and at the time, I felt like writing a song that even came close to the awesomeness of Starship might be out of my league!

So, I did what every good songwriter does, I put my pen and paper down and walked away. ( I don’t know if that’s what all songwriters do, but that’s what I did that day.) I remember saying a little prayer to God and the Universe to help me write the song for the conference. I asked for guidance and to trust that I would get the job done and that it would be amazing! Let go and let God.

A couple of nights later, I was enjoying a beautiful bath, and as I was creating my own waves, I started to hum the words, “get out of your head and into your heart, let the light shine through; we’re creating a wave for healing today, and for a life that is brand new. I sang it over again, then I jumped out of the bathtub and ran across the room like a madwoman to grab my pen and paper to write down the beginning of my song, Creating The Wave. The rest flowed to me, and I completed the song.

When I performed it at the Healing Touch Association of Canada Conference, everyone in the room was smiling and dancing to the song. Many people came up to me afterwards and told me that they couldn’t get it out of their heads; the tune kept replaying. I guess that was a good thing. It may not be as popular as Starships song, but it was my song that I put my heart in soul into and knowing that it touched many people made it a number 1 hit in my mind.
